Sustainability at SportCities

An event promoting more active and responsible cities

Sustainability is an essential part of SPORTCITIES. It is integral to the planning, production, transport, selection of suppliers, catering and communication for the entire event.

Because the development of sports facilities and public spaces also involves considering their impact on people and the environment.

METHODOLOGY

How we do it

These are some of the areas of focus that form part of SPORTCITIES’ sustainability model.

01

Mobility and accessibility

The venues hosting SPORTCITIES are selected taking into account connectivity via public transport and other mobility options that help reduce travel.

02

Responsible supplier management

We work with partners and suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, the circular economy and continuous improvement in event-related processes.

03

Material circularity

Wherever possible, materials used during the event are reused or recycled. Furthermore, recycled and recyclable solutions are prioritised for the construction of venues.

04

Sustainable catering

The catering service relies on local suppliers, seasonal produce and measures to reduce food waste, whilst avoiding single-use plastics.

05

Carbon footprint measurement and offsetting

SPORTCITIES takes into account the carbon footprint associated with each edition and implements improvement and offsetting measures to reduce its impact year on year.

06

Paperless communication

Event information, signage and much of the documentation are provided in digital format to minimise the use of paper and other resources.

CERTIFICATIONS

A constantly evolving commitment

We continue to work to strengthen this commitment and expand initiatives that have a positive impact on the region and the professional community.
